Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school site are great! They are a mixture of diverse learners from diverse backgrounds. These students do not have much but they do come to school with a love to learn and are excited about their progression as students. There is no educational matter more urgent as seeing to it that all of my students become competent life long learners and critical consumers.
My commitment to meeting this challenge is hindered by the lack of materials and funds allocated for the sciences. With DSM III Dinosaurs and Fossils - Complete Kit from Delta Education, my students will not only be engaged and challenged, they will be confident scientists.
With the DSM III kit students discover what dinosaurs were, when they lived, what they were like, and how they may have become extinct. They read about fossils. They find out how different kinds of fossils form and what scientists can learn from fossils. Students learn the two main classifications of dinosaurs. Also, students explore prehistoric life by simulating the way real scientists learn about dinosaurs by examining their fossils and their footprints.
After spanning the millenia with a geological time line, students create, bury, and unearth imitation fossils, the backbone of dinosaur research. They try to reconstruct dinosaur skeleton models and speculate about the animals' appearance and behavior, based on their bones. They investigate dinosaur footprints and make inferences about size, speed, and stride.
Second grade is a crucial time in scientific investigation and inquiry. The shift is from teacher directed to student driven. My kids want to learn and are excited about science. Please help me maintain such excitement. It will make a difference in their lives and how they respond to science projects for the rest of their academic careers.
Thank you for your generosity.
