My Students

Help us link literacy to lifelong learning. Through looking and listening in our literacy center, we will learn to read.

My students are highly energetic and very much engaged in the learning process.

Each day at school is an adventure, discovering and conquering new material daily. Unfortunately, 100% of my class receives free or reduced lunch. This means that the socio-economic of every single student is at or below the poverty level. This translates to those students not having limited to no resources and/or opportunities to become proficient in their academic endeavors. In fact, our school's student population of 500 is at least 98% impoverished. These sad facts, however, do not hinder their motivation. All that is needed is to add the proper learning materials to ensure academic success.

My Project

Kindergarten is such a fundamental level. Here, we lay a foundation on which all academic skills can be built. That foundation is literacy. Reading is not, simply, a subject. It is, in fact, a critical skill that must be mastered as it is integrated in every content area, such as: math, language arts, science, social studies, etc. We need your help in furnishing our literacy center. Your donation will provide award-winning children's storybooks and accompanying books on audio. The students will listen to the book on CDs while tracking the print in the book. This will allow the students to look and listen while learning to read.

We really need your help.

My students are in dire need of resources that strengthen literacy. The best thing is they are afforded the opportunity to do so using current material that complements our curriculum. Further, they are encouraged to develop a lifelong learning of reading. What a gift you are able give...the gift of reading! Thank you, in advance. We really appreciate your consideration.
