My Project
Our students are from all types of diverse backgrounds. Some have many books at home; some have none. Getting students to read more is the surest way to increase their reading ability.
Having a library collection with characters that look like our students is crucial for them to make connections with the books they read. Children like to see themselves reflected in the characters of books. These books such as, "Dim Sum", "Finding My Dance", and "Marisol McDonald and the Clash Bash" are for Everyone! They will give a variety of students the ability to see themselves in literature.
If students are able to make personal connections with stories, they will read more. Great readers make great learners, and these books will help with that!
This classroom project was brought to life by Oklahoma State Department of Education.
