This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every year I find new and creative ways to engage my students in math. This upcoming school year, I'm working on tying my Ancient Civilizations Social Studies curriculum, Social Emotional Learning, and math all in one!
It starts with a Growth Mindset.
Math can be challenging, but doesn't have to be if you look at math as a way to analyze the world. I want to get my students started early in the beginning of the school year with Growth Mindset Journals so they can tackle the problem solving in math.
My students will also need models like geometric shapes to understand perimeter, area, and volume when constructing replicas of ancient artifacts they're learning about in history. They'll use the dough and modeling clay to create their artifacts. In addition, my students regularly use whiteboards and need whiteboard erasers, nameplates that quickly show their math facts, and giant graph paper to work out problems in groups. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
