My Students
I am a special education teacher and this remote learning has been a challenge for all of us (teachers, students, parents etc.. ). My students who have special needs in communication and academics due to their classifications in speech and language impairment, emotional disturbance, visual impairment and Autism have had to make a sudden adjustment to learning. Their parents have also had to adjust to teaching their children at home. They are still going through this pandemic, with limited resources and the ability to continue enrichment at home and outside their homes.
In the transition into summer vacation, I would like continue remote learning by providing my students with tools that they can use at home to continue to practice skills.
My Project
With remote learning commencing, the fear that students will be affected by the Summer Slide concerns me as their teacher. I want to alleviate this gap of non-learning by providing enrichment.
It is widely understood that on average students lose academic ground during the summer, a phenomenon frequently referred to as “summer learning loss” or “summer slide.” In addition, my students all have special needs which make this slide even more detrimental because they are already performing below grade level.
Help me provide leveled workbooks and diverse books to my students. Students will be able to review the skills from the grade and prepare for the new upcoming school year.
