Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students are coming to school from very challenging socio-economic broken homes and too many live in shelters. These children are in need of expressing themselves visually. At school, most students are given breakfast and lunch meals. Often times they do not have the money to participate in going on school trips, buying yearbooks or attending dances. Yet their smiling faces and energy provide enough love to me to want to give them an exceptional art education. Thanks.
My Project
Many students have not had an opportunity to be a source of inspiration. Through the exploration of photography with a new digital camera, film, a printer, and digital photo papers, I hope to empower them with a new way of looking at their world. I believe that providing an exhibition at our school that students will feel a sense of pride, ownership and will ultimately be encouraged to continue their brave little lives and let us have a snap shot into what they see as inspiring, sad, happy, confusing and joyous. I hope to bring a new awareness to their lives, one in which can be celebrated school-wide as they see their vision come to fruition.
