My Students
"Look at me!" is a phrase you hear often from kids. They love seeing themselves - in pictures and in videos.
The students in my gifted/high ability magnet classroom come from very diverse backgrounds, both ethnically and socioeconomically.
School is a great equalizer. I love watching my students find common ground and work together in spite of their differences.
My Project
My students need a digital camera and camcorder, along with memory cards and a tripod, so we can document our year. So many memories are created throughout the school year: projects, presentations, field trips, performances, and even our everyday experiences. Kids love to see themselves, and knowing their efforts will be recorded for posterity (and their parents' viewing) can inspire them to do even better. I would love to be able to record their oral presentations for the project they are currently working on, which is about animal adaptations and habitats.
In this time of deeper and deeper budget cuts, schools are struggling to purchase basic supplies, like paper and pencils.
New "frills" like cameras and video cameras are luxuries and are not even on the budget radar. Having these tools in my classroom will really help to motivate my students and help them to fulfill their full potential. Thank you for your consideration and generosity
