Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the honor of teaching a group of unique students that come from a wide range of social backgrounds. Each of my students bring something unique to the classroom as a whole.
In Special Education it is important to address the learning style of all students, thus in order to do so it is even more important to identify student interests, while also allowing students to build on the strengths that they already obtain.
I take passion in providing my students with a space to explore the beauty of literature, and I look forward to introducing my students to specific books that foster the development of confidence toward personal achievement and academic success.
My Project
Students will be given the opportunity to interact with their books on a daily basis, using post-its and highlighters tape to increase engagements and comprehension.
The "Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds is an engaging book that address the impact of gun violence in urban communities.
Students will identify internal and external conflicts experienced by the main character, and by identifying these conflicts students will be able to analyze the development of a character as a story progresses. Through analysis, students will have the opportunity to make inferences in regard to the characters motivation and potential actions.
Overall, the objective is to have students determine whether young people in urban communities should RETHINK the rules and codes that are learned, and often accepted.
