Long Lasting Literacy Centers

My students need reading, writing, and vocabulary materials to enhance their learning during literacy centers.

My Students

Learning through inquiry and hands on activities is a great way for my students to improve and enrich their literacy skills.

I teach at an amazing urban school where my students are involved in inquiry throughout their day.

We are an International Baccalaureate Elementary school in the heart of the city. My 27 2nd graders come from all different cultural and economic backgrounds. They are amazing readers and writers, second language learners, and curious people who love to learn.

My Project

The following centers are essential to help support the essential components of reading. This year, I am focusing on word work (phonics), reading (fluency and comprehension), and writing. The only problem is that I do not have activity centers that my students can do in a small group or independently. My students need various types of hands-on activities to activate their enthusiasm for reading and writing. Once we get these activity sets, my students will be able to experience the reading components in a new, exciting way. The word work center will help my students develop their phonics skills. The vocabulary center will focus on building their vocabulary and comprehension by focusing on words they may not know. The writing center and reading folders will help improve their reading comprehension skills, fluency, and provide the rigor that all of my students need.
