About My Students

The best thing about being a teacher is that every single day you get a brand new opportunity to do great things in the lives of your students. Not everyone can say that about their career. This Life Skills class is especially unique because it allows me to do projects and activities not usually touched upon in classrooms.

Stephanie and Emily, the leaders of this project, are model students. They have such positive attitudes and come in each day always inquiring to learn more. They are open and honest and encourage students to be confident enough to share their feelings also. This creates the perfect learning environment for a class that's aim is to help students learn to deal with the challenges and stresses that come with being a teenager in today's society.

It has been research-proven that writing down your visions and having goals for your future is the best way to keep yourself accountable and also to keep yourself from engaging in high-risk behavior. This project provides a literature resource and supplies to guide us in creating our own vision boards with their plans for their futures, whatever those may include. The blank canvas will be filled with goals, quotes, plans, etc. Students will be able to work through the process of brainstorms, rough drafts, and editing. They will be able to then carry this process on later in life as their goals and plans may evolve. They will be encouraged to share their joys and worries and work collaboratively to problem- solve and plan accordingly to complete this project.

In Their Own Words

We would like to be able to have a template to brainstorm goals for our future and then create a vision board to put our goals in writing. The research we have done so far tells us we are more likely to achieve our dreams if they are visible every day.

I will use this opportunity as an experience to help myself gain confidence as I transition to the high school next year. I also hope to set an example and motivate other students to take advantage of leadership opportunities in our school. By becoming involved in our schools and our own futures, we know that we are far more likely to be successful.

Our school has many students who would be the first ones to graduate high school in their family. We also live in an area where there is an opioid issue and many students are becoming involved in the wrong activities. I want to use all of my available resources and strategies to stay focused and be successful.
