My students need an LCD projector so that I can incorporate video and images to show my students how vivid and interactive history can be.

Imagine trying to learn history without being able to see it or hear it.
I teach 9th grade U.S. history to a group of incredible young adults. I teach in a high needs area of Maryland. Most of my students are reading below reading level, with some reading as low as a first grade level. However, after talking to them and interacting with them it is clear that their intellect and potential is much higher. These students simply need a way to engage with school which means that I need to make my classroom as interesting and engaging as possible.
Most of my students have very little experience with anything outside their own neighborhood. To allow my students to really delve into history they not only need to read, they need to hear and see it. I am approaching the time-period in U.S. history where photography and even video become important sources of historical evidence. Due to the fact that my students have very little experience with the world around them it is hard for them to engage with the history I am teaching, even if much of it relates to their own histories.
My students need to experience history in multiple ways each and every day. I would like an LCD projector so that my students can see what slums looked like at the turn of the century or be able to listen to one of FDR's fireside chats. I want to make history as real and tangible as possible for my students, and to do that, technology such as an LCD projector, is essential.
With your help these students will be able to explore American history and in doing so, explore their own past. They will be able to see the links between their lives and U.S. history, and learn to use those links to guide their futures or even the future of this country. Most importantly you will be helping to engage students who are in danger of dropping out by making sure that they have the future they deserve.
