Lively Literacy Library

My students need many new books, both fiction and non-fiction to create a new and improved classroom library.

My Students

There is nothing like an actual book in the hands of a child.

My students come from a wide variety of families and cultures.

They enjoy reading and love to sit or lay on the rug and enjoy a good book. Reading to each other, or "buddy reading" as we call it, is their favorite part of our week. Because most of my students come from low-income families, books are a luxury not often available in the home. For this reason, I would like to immerse them in as many different kinds of books as possible.

My Project

I would like to create a large, well organized library for my students. It will be easily accessible to all students. They will use it for independent, partner and small group reading. It will be stocked with both fiction and non-fiction, which will provide multiple options for the students. It will also provide multiple levels of these books as my students are all reading on different levels. Access to a larger variety of books will allow my students the ability to choose books in which they have an interest.

Funding this project will improve my students' reading ability because they will spend more time actively engaged in their learning.

I also believe that access to a larger variety of books will allow students to find books in which they have an interest and hopefully they will develop a life long love of books and of reading. This love of reading will help them in middle school, high school and eventually college.
