My Students
"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning." -Mr. Rogers
My students have special needs and require different ways to learn. While they require repetition, they lose interest easily.
I work with students that have various disabilities: Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Intellectual Disabilities, Dyslexia, Speech/Language Disorders.
They are third and fourth graders who are significantly below grade level. Most come from households where educational materials are scarce. Our school is diverse and the majority of the students come from low-income households.
My Project
Students would be able to practice the skills that I'm teaching them in a fun, interactive way. They would be able to practice reading skills-such as decoding, following directions, reading comprehension using the set of reading comprehension games. The students would also practice math skills-such as adding, subtracting, telling time, place value using the set of math bingo games. The math manipulatives, magnetic place value blocks, will give them a hands-on way to practice their skills without always using paper and pencil. They will also learn life skills, like being good sports, sharing, teamwork, and working with others while playing the classic games, like Candy Land, Trouble, and Connect Four.
The donations from the generous donors will help improve my students' learning and their independence.
My students will become more confident readers and mathematicians. They will also be able to interact with each other and learn appropriate social skills. This will help them be more successful in the general education classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
