Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a small high school of four hundred students which can often feel like a family. Our students care about one another and treat the teachers and staff as they are treated, like they are important.

Our students are appreciative of what they have including access to a library.

They are delighted when I tell them they can check out three books at a time as many times as they would like. Many of our students come from other countries and sometimes remote areas where they did not have access to libraries. Even students from the local area, a part of the city considered a book desert, have had limited access to a reading culture outside of school.

My Project

These journals and simple art supplies can be carried around at school or at home to meet the needs of students both on campus and virtual. This year has been an especially emotional experience for students.

Being a human is an emotional experience, and being a human is also a creative experience.

Help my students uncover and develop their own voices and creativity. I will be encouraging my students to reflect on their daily experiences in this very confusing world. Participating students will commit to draw or write each day, in the tradition of "Morning Pages" in order to surprise themselves with their own thoughts and creativity.
