My Students

I am the K-8th grade Visual Arts Teacher of a fantastic population of students at a Title I school on the Southside of Chicago. My students have not had art class in many years, and in some cases, never at all. Already, my students have shown desire to take their art class experience as far as possible this year. I hope to be able to grant their wishes!

My Project

My students have not had an art teacher in years, and many of them have never had an art class at all. Subsequently, my school also did not have an art room or any art resources. I have been building a room full of hands-on, interactive experiences but now I need your help! My room is so old that I don’t even have whiteboards! In the interest of using technology in the classroom, I am hoping to have my project fully funded so that my students can view live visual art demos and reference materials that are directly screen cast from my iPad, to a large screen in the classroom. Currently, my students have no way to view a demonstration in anything larger than a small group, which will drastically slow us down. I teach kindergarten through 8th grade and every single student at my school would greatly benefit from this technology integration. The Apple TV will allow me to wirelessly screencast my iPad, while moving freely throughout the classroom. In addition to demos and reference materials, I will be able to begin to integrate units on graphic and digital arts. Students will be exposed to a wider medium of art making, thus directly benefitting students looking to go into the arts in high school or higher education.
