Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I need more hands on activities to show kids how agriculture can help them to live a self-sustainable life. Most of my curriculum is online. We need more hands on activities. Learning how to do hydroponics will really give students the ability to take something home and hopefully influence their family.

I am very passionate about agriculture and want to pass my passion to my students.

We are in a small, rural community supported by agriculture. My students elect to be in my classes. I teach livestock production, basic shop, horticulture, advanced animal science, small animal care, and equine science. These subjects require more hands on and engaging projects like the hydroponic grow kit. This will teach my kids first hand how to raise food for themselves. Having the rolling whiteboard will enable me to take class outside the classroom and focus on things around us that we can use to be self sustaining.

My kids come to my classroom for the no -typical education. They see my classroom as one that teaches real-world lessons. We do read and do bookwork, but they get so much more from field experiences.
