My Students

This community has been greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our families have lived in tents on the property of the city's civic center, moved in with relatives, and stayed at local hotels. Prior to the storm, this was a low socioeconomic area. With the loss of housing and even some jobs, it has gotten even worse.

Through all of the setbacks, we have the best little school around.

Our students are smart and very eager to learn. They come to school daily with a willingness to become better students. There is a clear team with the parents as well. They are willing to do whatever it takes to help the students be successful.

My Project

One is the greatest ways of demonstrating a concept is to have a live hands-on activity. When students physically engage in a personal experience, they are more likely to retain the information. It has been our goal to incorporate labs or learning stations to ensure each students fully understands the curriculum.

Identifying the differences between Physical and Chemical Changes is one of those concepts that is hard to comprehend.

This project will allow each student a container and Alka-Seltzer to create a personal lava lamp. The students will experience the mixing and the chemical reactions!
