it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher serving a low income area, there are specific challenges that my students face both in and out of the classroom. These eager and excited young students come to school everyday ready to learn and happy to explore. Unfortunately, situations beyond their control threaten their success on a daily basis.
Many of my students have a difficult time securing the basic supplies they'll need for daily use.
For this reason, my projects on DonorsChoose are of vital importance to my students. I believe that it is my duty to provide these exceptional young thinkers the best opportunities that I possibly can. My diverse group of dedicated and inquisitive students will get the chance they deserve with the help of these resources.
My Project
Live butterflies is my favorite unit to teach all year! The students always love being observers and watching their butterflies morph from tiny larva into beautiful butterflies. We talk all about the life cycle by reading books, but there is something about watching your own butterfly change yourself! When the butterflies are ready to go, we walk to our local park and release them.
Live butterflies give students the hands on experiences they don't usually get and make them excited to learn.
Science really comes to life when they see a full life cycle in action! What the butterflies are in the room, the students can't wait to come to school!
