This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher serving a low income area, there are specific challenges that my students face both in and out of the classroom. These eager and excited young students come to school everyday ready to learn and happy to explore. Unfortunately, situations beyond their control threaten their success on a daily basis.
Many of my students have a difficult time securing the basic supplies they'll need for daily use.
For this reason, my projects on DonorsChoose are of vital importance to my students. I believe that it is my duty to provide these exceptional young thinkers the best opportunities that I possibly can. My diverse group of dedicated and inquisitive students will get the chance they deserve with the help of these resources.
My Project
I am requesting 3 sets (one for each first grade classroom in my school) of live butterfly sets. These amazing kits supply the larva for students to take care of as the go through their life cycle to become a butterfly. The kids get so excited and are highly engaged in the material when they get to see real life butterflies grow and change in front of them.
At the end of the unit, we take the fully grown caterpillars to the park for the truly magical experience of setting them free.
From start to finish, the kids have an amazing time with this project and learn so much!
