Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The magnetic letters and boards can be used in a variety of ways to teach my students letters and letter sounds in a multi-sensory way. The students can put the letters on the board and then arrange them into word families or make rhyming words. They will also look at laminated pictures of simple words such as "cat", "bat", "thumb", "ship", etc and identify the beginning sounds, vowel sounds and the ending sounds and match them with the magnetic letters. These will provide my students with hands-on opportunities to learn and practice their letters and sounds and spelling.
These activities will help my students improve their phonemic awareness and phonics skills to make them better readers.
Being able to laminate the paper resources that include phonics games and activities will make them reusable and make them last longer. Students will use dry erase markers to write directly on the resources and then clean them and use them again for next time.
To celebrate my students' achievements as they become better readers, I would like to reward them with fun stickers, classroom prizes, awards, and little treats. Everyone loves it when their hard work is paid off, especially the little scholars in my class. Rewarding my learners for their diligence will keep them motivated towards meeting their learning goals.
