My Project

I work in an inner-city school district in a city with one of the highest child poverty rates in the country. The world is a confusing and worrisome place for many of my students, who don’t know what to do with their feelings and don’t feel a sense of agency in their own lives. I am hoping to introduce programming into classrooms PK-3 that will provide a playful, creative means to begin to name and understand their emotions and to learn about their capacity for meaningful and immediate actions they can take to make a happier, kinder world.

The “Little Spot” series (emotions and feelings, actions and life skills) can empower even our littlest students to improve self-regulation, peer relationships, and a broader understanding of how their actions can have an impact on their world.
