Our students are AWESOME! They are unique, creative, and talented. They come from all walks of life. We have a wonderful school and are surrounded by supportive parents and family members. Our school operates just like a community. We provide for our students emotionally, mentally, physically and educationally. The well-being of our students is our top priority.
We thrive on teaching the WHOLE child.
Not only do we focus on reading and math, but we also strive to teach our students science, social studies, and the arts. We are a school that is dedicated to creating 21st century learners. We can only do this if we have updated materials and resources.
Our school has approximately 460 students. We have four self-contained special needs classes, as well as one preschool class. Our teachers all have diverse backgrounds and exhibit a variety of teaching styles. Our teachers do a wonderful job of differentiating for our students.
My Project
School can be stressful! Not only do teachers feel stress, but often times, students do, too! I have requested materials to use with our youngest learners in school. Yoga cards, books, pose guides, etc. will aid me in teaching young students how to breathe deep, how to do yoga poses correctly and how to do relaxation exercises.
Not only does yoga help students physically with spatial awareness, flexibility and strength, but it also helps students to improve their attention spans and focus more during the school day.
It relieves stress, calms anxious minds and creates a calm learning environment for students.
These materials will teach students how lungs work, how to do different breathing techniques for relaxation, and how to do yoga poses correctly. Preschool children have a hard time with spatial and body awareness. Yoga and breathing exercises teach students how to be more aware of their bodies and where their bodies are in space.
I would love to incorporate yoga and relaxation exercises into our preschool curriculum. If we teach the students at an early age how to regulate their bodies and minds when they are stressed or anxious, then we can give them the tools they will need to be more successful in their grade school classrooms!
