My Project
This project is special because it is designed specifically for young learners in a Life Skills special education classroom, where every child learns in their own unique way and at their own pace. Our kindergarten and first grade students often face significant challenges with communication, focus, and literacy, but they also have an incredible capacity for joy, curiosity, and growth. By combining accessible books with engaging reading games, we’re creating an environment where reading is not just a skill to be taught—but a joyful experience to be shared, explored, and celebrated.
The goal of this project is to build a rich collection of developmentally appropriate books and interactive literacy tools that meet our students where they are.
These resources will include sensory-friendly books, durable board books, adaptive tools for turning pages, and literacy games that teach foundational reading skills through movement, music, and play. With these materials, we can provide daily opportunities for our students to build vocabulary, recognize letters and sounds, and develop confidence in their ability to interact with books in meaningful ways.
This project will have a lasting impact on our classroom by helping students build early reading skills in a way that is fun, inclusive, and empowering. Many of our children come to school with limited access to books or struggle with traditional learning methods, so having the right tools in the classroom can truly transform their learning experience.
