Little Picasso's Petition for a Picturesque Art-Tech Center, Part I

My students need an Echo Spot, digital picture frame, paintbrushes, smocks, art material organizers, and other art materials to add to their existing easel area in order to develop a new Art-Tech Center.

My Students

Eight 3 and 4-year-olds bustle around a busy classroom, exploring the world around them, manipulating materials and learning through play and participation in carefully planned learning experiences.

All of these mini-scholars are exceptional students and none of them lack curiosity.

This is what happens in both sessions (morning and afternoon) of my half-day preschool classroom. This is the first school experience for many of my students, who represent a ethnically diverse low income neighborhood where 100% of the school's students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Art is my class' favorite subject. However, my students are currently lacking necessary art materials in their current art center to independently express their creativity to their fullest potential. Creating an art-tech Center will provide the supports needed to reach this goal.

My Project

My students currently do not have a very inviting art center. It only has an easel with markers. They have a desire to complete more art projects. However, they are lacking necessary materials and support to do so. I plan to create an Art-Tech center for my prekindergarten students to feel more comfortable creating masterpieces of their own.

This innovative Art-Tech center will feature an Echo Spot so they can use their words to verbally search for pictures and examples of items they would like to feature in their art work.

Also a digital picture frame will be displayed above the easel, featuring pictures of the works of art they have already created to spark inspiration and creativity in all students.

Basic art supplies are also needed to make the art area more organized and useful. I am requesting items such as smocks, easel clips, an art drying rack, a paper sorter, and plastic/wooden supply organizers to make art materials more visible and inviting for my little artists to use.

These materials also will support the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) learning initiative in our preschool while providing an interdisciplinary approach to center learning. As part of my professional development journey, this project will support my professional goal by helping my classroom provide access to more creative learning opportunities within choice center time.
