Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the funniest, loving and intelligent kids I have ever met. They are filled with daily “I love you” greetings and never fail to make me laugh. I am only away from them thirty minutes a day while they are at lunch and when I return they always put a smile on my face by exclaiming that they missed me. The love they have in their hearts is tremendous. Unfortunately, my students were born into unfavorable conditions and I plan to help them overcome any and all obstacles in their way.
I refuse to let economic disadvantages become educational disadvantages.
All students deserve a chance to succeed regardless of their unchosen circumstances. My students are extremely loving and bright, but the harsh reality is that they come from low socioeconomic families. I would love to see my students thrive academically despite their unfortunate and uncontrollable economic disadvantage.
My Project
I want to teach my children the difference between hearing and listening. These materials will help keep our listening center stocked with different read-alouds for my students to practice their listening skills. To be able to listen critically is a skill that needs to be practiced and we can do this with these materials.
Research has proven that students in lower socioeconomic families hear significantly less words than those children in favorable conditions.
These read-alongs will also give my students the opportunity to be exposed to more oral language. Having a listening center will give my students the chance to hear vocabulary they are missing out on in every day life.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
