My Students

One of my favorite memories in grammar school was center time. We could choose which center we wanted to go to. We were encouraged to be creative and use our imagination in everything we did. Our creativity would run wild! ALL children deserve and need the opportunity to stretch their imaginations!

The enrollment at our school is range of cultures, backgrounds, experiences, challenges and abilities.

However, once through the doors, there is a real sense of community, mutual respect and friendship. Our school is located in a predominantly low-income neighborhood, which means that many of our students may not have access to many of the materials outside the classroom as students in surrounding communities. Unfortunately, our school funding leaves little room for new materials. I am fortunate to teach in a blended Pre-K classroom with 3, 4 and 5 year old children with special needs. When teaching young children it is critical that students have hands on experiences and are given a plethora of opportunities to express themselves in different forms.

My Project

It is my goal to naturally engage my students through an Arts Integration approach. Almost everyone has one art form (visual art, music, dance or drama) with which they connect and use to make sense of the world. With a new art easel and paints, my students will have another way to express themselves and at the same time another medium to practice pre-writing skills. For students who are auditory learners, music is an excellent avenue to help these students. Music and literacy go hand in hand, the CD/iPod player will help students develop phoneme awareness, discrimination between similar auditory elements, speech signals, auditory memory, and more. With phoneme awareness, children will learn how sounds come together to form words, enabling them to make sense of the sounds that they hear.

Through your generosity in funding this project, you will provide essential Arts materials that we lack in our Pre-K classroom.

As a teacher, it is my job to ensure I understand and know how each of my students learn and cater to those needs. Thank you so much for choosing this project to fund. You have no idea how much your donation is going to impact our classroom creativity!
