My students need manipulatives for measurement, fractions, telling time, money and graphing. This will help make mathematics concepts more comprehensible and tangible.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How do we ensure that our students become the mathematicians of the future? It starts with a rigorous curriculum that uses tangible examples and manipulatives to explain mathematical concepts. Students need a strong foundation to become successful problem solvers, critical thinker, and life-learners.
My students live in a community riddled with gang-violence and uncertainty.
Some come from a homeless shelter and are bussed. My students attend a Title I school and are English Learners. However, they inspire me everyday because they do not let these circumstances get in their way. They have the drive to learn and are so resilient! I love to come to school every day because they are so curious about everything. It is exciting to see they're reaction when they discover or learn something for the first time. My students are my inspiration and I learn from them everyday.
My Project
My students need manipulatives for measurement, fractions, telling time, money and graphing. My goal is to help my students become critical thinkers and problems solvers. By providing them with a strong mathematical foundation, they will be able to accomplish this. The mathematical manipulatives I am asking for would help make concepts and big ideas comprehensible and tangible for my students. The wipe off students clocks and magnetic clock will allow me to quiz students on understanding telling time to the half hour and more. The fractions manipulatives will make it easier for students to see how a whole is divided into equal parts by using a concrete example. The centers I've asked for will help students review critical mathematical skills and will give them the opportunity to master these skills. Basically, everything I've asked for will help make concepts easier to understand and will help my students by allowing them to manipulate and review. These items will truly improve my students' lives and they will learn that math is fun and exciting.
The reason why I believe my project is important is because as a nation we need to improve our students mathematical education.
Our country's future will depend on these little mathematicians one day! They will be the leaders in the future and I feel the responsibility of giving them the best education I can. This will be possible with your help.
