This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Manipulatives help students learn by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning. Using manipulatives is especially useful for teaching low achievers, students with learning disabilities, and English language learners which are the population of students I work for.
When students work with manipulatives they can reflect on their experiences, their anxiety is greatly reduced, and promotes a positive attitude toward learning more independently.
I usually work with students in small groups so they get more opportunities to verbalize their mathematical thinking, discuss their ideas and concepts as well as work collaboratively.
It is important that the students get the ten frames, bingo, and other materials they need so they can constantly practice and gain confidence in their abilities to find solutions to mathematical problems.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
