Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a predominantly low-income school located in Santa Ana, California. A large population of our school consists of ELL students who come from immigrant families. These students do not speak English at home and often times their parents speak very limited English.
The early years are some of the most crucial years in a child's education.
As a TK/Kindergarten/first grade student, it is especially important to begin building a strong foundation for school. Our focus is on creating a comfortable and safe environment for students to thrive.
My Project
Children learn through multiple means and sometimes paper and pencil is not the best option to teach letters and sounds. Providing students with hands on manipulatives will encourage them to practice in a more fun and meaningful way.
My young students will benefit from learning their letters in fun ways that seem more like games than learning.
Encouraging play in the classroom has been a goal of mine from the very beginning and I am excited to be able to provide my students with more opportunities to learn other than the traditional pencil and paper way.
