Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten in a title I school & a high-needs community. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunch and 40% of our students come from ethnic backgrounds. Most of my students have little or no-hands on experiences when it comes to phonemic awareness or any literacy skills for that matter. As their teacher, I plan on providing them with as many learning experiences as possible before they go to First grade.
Most of my "kinderkids" come from homes where there is no background knowledge to build upon when entering kindergarten.
For most, it starts at school. The world today is so busy that we sometimes forget the importance of early literacy skills that young children need to succeed.
As their teacher, I have to build knowledge of the alphabet, concepts of print, and many other things they need to know to move on to first grade. Almost half of the students at our school come from ethnic backgrounds. So, not only am I introducing them the alphabet and teaching them letters, sounds, numbers, and even how to hold a book, I am also teaching some how to speak English. That's why I am asking you to help me provide activities for my students that will give them the opportunity for learning that they deserve.
My Project
I am requesting different learning games that focus on beginning sounds, ending sounds, letter sound matching and blends and digraph sounds plus a set of see-through alphabet sounds. These activities will take my students through the school year as we learn the basics and foundations of reading and while we take that knowledge even further to prepare them for first grade.
I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my proposal.
If you choose to fund this project you will be making dreams come true not just for me, but for my wonderful "kinderkids". Each child deserves the same opportunities to learn and become successful. I plan on using these resources to help me be the key that holds their future.
