My Project
The students in my classroom are developmentally challenged 3-year-olds. They exhibit delayed development due to multiple factors—inherited and environmental. I admire both their optimism and tenacity. In the face of significant adversity, they primarily choose happiness. Often, people around them use their limitations and missed milestones as reasons to restrict their access to challenging content. However, I adopt a growth mindset and work to enrich the classroom environment so that they all have opportunities to learn authentically at their own pace.
Children will never believe in themselves until they see that others believe in them and what they are capable of.
I am asking for help to purchase a collection of alphabet objects and storage tubs to give my students the chance to build literacy connections using realia that matches each letter of the alphabet. I will be able to use these objects to teach them to connect initial letter sounds with the names of things they see in the world around them.
One of the biggest frustrations I have experienced as an early childhood teacher is seeing students memorize a single picture printed with a letter in curriculum materials because they believe it is the only word that starts with that letter. Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs are a learning tool that will help me avoid that situation for my students because they will have access to multiple objects for each letter and thereby learn many words that begin with each letter sound.
