I am blessed to teach 25 first graders. These young students are full of energy, wonder, and excitement. But here's the thing-I'm preparing young students to be career ready for jobs that aren't even invented yet!
There are students in my classroom who are first generation Americans, students who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, students who are English Language Learners, and students who have educational disabilities.
However, when I look out at all of their smiling faces I only see young children who deserve the best education possible and are capable of anything the world throws at them. As a teacher, I strive to provide an enriching learning environment where I can challenge my students to be critical thinkers and innovators.
My Project
In my first grade classroom, I am lucky to teach many first generation Americans. These students come to my classroom with a great sense of curiosity and a deep desire to learn.
One way to help English Language Learners expand their vocabulary and increase their exposure to print is through labeling.
The possibilities with a Cricut machine are endless. I will be able to create custom labels for my classroom, helping my students learn to read and spell basic everyday objects that we often take for granted. I will also be able to create decorations to help ensure my classroom is a warm and welcoming space for all learners. Another way I plan on using the Cricut is to help create custom vocabulary and sight word flash cards. These flashcards will help not only my English Language Learners but all students grow stronger as readers and writers.
