Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a classroom of adorable 4-year-olds eager and curious about the world around them. Many of them are English language learners. Many of my students come from families where only one parent works. They are not given the opportunity to have many outside experiences, based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. Please help me develop a love for learning by providing my students with literacy materials to help them grow as they begin their journey as young readers and writers.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning and will improve their school lives. My class contains some children that are English Language Learners. English is not the language primarily spoken in their homes. Therefore, their time at school is the only time they are exposed to the English language. The Read and Retell Magnetic Literacy Centers will be used to help build oral language. It will also help me instill a love for reading and help build beginning comprehension skills, such as retelling. The Listen, Read and Rhyme with Dr. Seuss will help my students with focusing, instill a love for reading and books, and will help them listen to and pick out words that rhyme. The Magnetic Letter Builders will expose my students to letters and recognizing them. It will also introduce them to the early stages of writing because they will be noticing how letters are formed. They will be introduced to terms such as curvy lines and straight lines. The Story Sequencing Instsnt Learning Center will be used to help build oral language and sequencing events in sequential order. Since my students are so young, even my English speaking students would benefit from these materials because it will help them develop their oral language, speaking in complete sentences. These materials will expose the children to important literacy skills such as sequencing, rhyming, retelling stories, and letter/sound identification.
