My Students
My seven students are curious, fun, sweet, and persevering learners. They all are diagnosed with moderate to severe learning disabilities performing significantly below their age level. They have very high needs and need a lot of support in the classroom to complete various tasks throughout the day. Despite having many challenges, my students work hard at succeeding and they never give up. Each student has unique qualities and skills and we are all working towards becoming independent and kind individuals in our community.
My Project
These items I have selected will continue to enhance and support my students' love for learning and exploration in my language-rich and social emotionally responsive classroom. My students absolutely love storytime and their favorite book is "Pete The Cat I Love my White Shoes" by Eric Litwin and James Dean. By reading this highly motivating book, my students will be able to answer questions, engage in eye contact, read words and develop important language and literacy skills needed for school.
The puppets that come along in this book set will also help support my students' engagement, attention and focus.
The colored stackers I have chosen will directly help some of my students with reaching their learning goals in class. This color stacking activity will help my students label, identify and sort different colors. It will also help my students with their attending, focusing, and fine motor skills. The shape magnet boards will also help my students develop their fine motor, attention, and pre-academic skills. These magnetic boards will support my students in labeling, identifying, and drawing simple shapes. Because my students are moderate to severely delayed in all developmental domains, they need a lot of materials, toys, tools, and extra scaffolding to support their growth in social-emotional, language, physical, cognitive, fine, and gross motor development. The pointers I have selected will help students with attending during whole group time and it will also encourage students to participate by allowing them to use a pointer to say or show their answers. The pointers are a fun and hands-on teaching trick to get students to participate during lessons! My students would absolutely love using a pointer to engage in classroom discussions and activities.
