Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist that serves all the Special Day Classes at my school. Next school year, our district will be changing the criteria for transitional kindergarten and allowing students as young as 3 to join the special education TK classroom. Due to this, I will need to adapt to these changes and make sure I have engaging and developmentally appropriate materials that support early language, social interaction and play skills.
This project will fund developmentally and cognitively appropriate materials for the little learners with big potential.
I have selected highly engaging books such as Pete the Cat and Poke a Dot, which teaches finger isolation in pointing. I have chosen Cause-and-Effect toys that are crucial in teaching those essential skills for language. All the toys I have selected encourage core word usage, such as "go up", "more please", "I want blue", "put in", which research shows teaching core words is essential for emerging language users. I've also included storage bins to keep my speech room tidy with the addition of these toys. With your help, I can create a warm, play-based learning environment that nurtures communication and confidence in my youngest learners.
