This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my second-grade and third-grade class are special education students attending a Title 1 school in Harlem. My students are eager to learn and soak up a lot of information.
My students enjoy reading picture books, short chapter books, and books they can relate to.
My boys are very interested in sports and fictional characters. My girls are interested in celebrities and cooking.
The students are very inquisitive and are very eager to learn and grow and I am eager to provide them with tools that will help them to do that!
My Project
Donations through this project would help to improve the students' learning by providing them with the foundational skills needed to improve their literacy.
Literacy is an important skill for children to have and I believe that having a wide and varied library that suits the needs of a range of learners that high literacy rates can be achieved.
My goal by the end of the year is to have all of my students go beyond reading at grade level but also develop a greater passion for learning about themselves, the world, and others.
Some of the items I would like to include in the library include how to build social and emotional awareness through books that deal with those issues, chapter book series, and nonfiction books.
