Little Leaders Community Project: First Graders Mentoring Kindergarten Readers
Help me give my students supplies like books, crayons, pencils, headphones, and plushies for a literacy project where they’ll mentor kindergarteners and inspire a love of reading through creativity and connection.

My Project
My first graders are taking on the exciting role of literacy mentors as part of a meaningful community service project within our school. Through our buddy reading initiative, they will read aloud to kindergarten students, guide discussions about stories, and support their younger peers as they develop early reading and comprehension skills.
We are requesting headphones for quiet reading and literacy stations, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, dry erase markers, and laminating papers to create interactive games, word work, and writing tools.
Watercolor paints will help students illustrate shared stories and create projects to celebrate books. We also hope to receive books and small animal plushies to make reading time warm, inviting, and confidence-boosting for our kindergarten buddies.
My students will take the lead in organizing, preparing, and mentoring weekly. This project allows them to grow as readers and leaders, while engaging in community service that truly benefits others and builds a stronger school community through literacy.
