Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Bronx school in September will be a Pre-K to 5th grade school. I will continue to teach Kindergarten as I have for quite a few years. What will be new is that we will opening an Annex 3 blocks away. I am looking forward to the move with only one problem: Pre-K and Kindergarten are moving into a middle school with 6th through 8th grade students. My dilemma is that these "little guys", my new kindergarten students will be moving into space that was previously occupied by 5th graders. That might not sound like a big deal, but when you think of the size difference between a Kindergarten student and a Fifth grader it can be a big deal. I would like to make it easier for my new class of little ones to walk into their new space and feel completely comfortable with their surroundings and ready to succeed. That is why I am asking for a Writing Center that will be just their size where they can sit at ease during Writer's Workshop or Center Time and complete their writing task in a comfortable space. Also, I would like a Library Center that is just their size so there will be no stretching to reach their favorite "Just Right" book. And last but certainly not least I want my class to feel confident and proud of the work they create this year so I would like a Portfolio Storage Center that the children will be able to reach to put their finished work in all by themselves,therefore helping them to be more independent. I know this is a big undertaking, but these "little guys" deserve to work in a room that is suited just for them since some of them do not have a space just for themselves in their own homes. I thank you in advance for your time and consideration of the needs of my "little guys".
