My Project

Fine motor skills are the skills that involve the use of small muscles in the hands such as fingers. The biggest challenge we face in building fine motor skills is the coordination of the hands, eyes, and brain. It is more complicated than many people imagine. It develops at a young age, typically before age six and it plays an important role in the way our hands function. Now is our chance to develop these crucial muscles and skills. Our students can form letters with playdough, create letter and number formations, and even use pom poms to make the shapes of different letters, numbers, and other educational skills.

Fine motor skills refer to the ‘small muscles’ in the hands.

Proper development of these muscles is crucial for children to succeed academically. According to the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC), “Fine motor skills form an important foundation for the acquisition of many other skills, including literacy, numeracy, self-help, and the ability to perform many everyday tasks”.
