This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love learning through hands-on experiences and discovery. I teach at a STEAM Magnet Center and teach integrated lessons using science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. I teach my students the Engineering Process and expose them to solving challenges cooperatively with specific materials. We are in need of STEM materials, such as building blocks, magnetic sticks, creative lego's kits, magnetic tiles, kinetic sand, play dough etc to help my students think creatively and learn to solve engineering challenges.
My goal for this engineering project is to obtain different resources and materials to help my students expand their creativity and explore new ideas when solving new Engineering Challenges.
All of these creative ways of building with help my students think out of the box and use different materials when trying to solve a problem. They will use them to build the tallest tower or to build a structure that is strong enough to hold a book. They will think about the problem, make of plan on how they will use their materials, try it out and build it, and then think about how they can make their design stronger or better.
My students love to work cooperatively to solve problems and they enjoy STEAM challenges where they learn that a prototype is just the beginning. Rethinking and using productive struggle to focus on how they can improve their design is what makes Engineering fun and rewarding.
