Little Computer Wizards Love Tactile Learning!

My students need new headphones, fidgets, a keyboard cleaning kit and monitor wipes for our classroom computer lab.

My Students

My transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students use our classroom computer lab each day. We practice reading skills, math skills and have a special computer class taught using these computers.

My students are the youngest students in the school, but they are very proficient using computers and love to feel independent using technology.

They know how to start the computers, navigate our class website, and get to their favorite learning sites. At the end of each day, a computer monitor cleans the computers and shuts them down for the night. This has fostered confidence and independence and they love to help each other learn too. Replacing our worn out and broken headphones will help keep this learning alive! Our school is a small school within a large school district. We are a high performing school and have increased our emphasis on integrating technology in the classroom this year.

My Project

My students will use these headphones and the computer cleaning materials every day. They will continue to learn to work independently, reinforce their skills and participate in differentiated instruction through the websites we use in class. Many of the sites we use emphasize problem solving skills and help the students engage in higher level thinking using a modality they can get excited about. They work independently, but also help each other learn how to use the sites. While some students use the computers, I am able to individualize my instruction with other students in the class, work one-to-one and assess children. The fidget sensory materials will be helpful for the children who still need to move while learning during group time.

Providing new, safe headphones will enable the children to continue to use our wonderful computers as a part of their learning curriculum.

The cleaning products allow the students to take responsibility for the care of the computers they use in class. Though they are only 5 years old, they are capable of learning through technology and really love to do so.
