My Project

My students are part of a program for sessional am/pm PreK3 Austin ISD. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district. As this is our foundation year for PreK3 at Baranoff, we are developing a library of curated SEL materials that are designed to support and aid young learners to better understand their emotions and how they can regulate and communicate when their feelings get 'too big.'

Change is hard, 'big feelings' are too and this is all the more challenging when you do not yet understand your emotions nor know how to express them and regulate in healthy ways.

PreK3 is often the first time many of our students are spending time away from home for extended periods. While school is often thought of as a place to learn academics, it is also where children observe and develop social skills, awareness and empathy. A significant component to learning in PreK3 is social emotional development and therefore building the foundations for children to become well-balanced positive members in their community.

With your support, the materials in this project will help educate young learners with communicating & understanding theirs and others' emotions through illustrated literature & props and meditative tools such as fidget mazes and sensory tubes.
