Literature Through Listening

My Students

Help my students unlock the love of reading! How do students comprehend text when they cannot access the text due to their ability to decode the text?

I teach 28 5th graders from an economically disadvantaged community.

My classroom population is half special education students. The students' reading ability ranges from letter identification through 6th grade reading level. Unfortunately, due to the reading difficulties many of my students do not have access to age level appropriate literature and topics.

My Project

A listening center would change students lives instantly. It would unlock the love of literature for students who have been unable to access the texts. In addition the books requested are classics and would allow students to interact and have conversations about novels that their peers are also reading. For students who are multiple years below this would not only benefit their reading, but also their self concept by providing them an outlet to express their thoughts.

Donating to this listening center and books would directly impact students this year and many years to come.

Student will be able to read, listen, and have conversation about grade level literature. Please strongly consider helping students find the love of literature.
