My Students
My students are fourth-grade students learning Spanish and English in a large school in the Rocky Mountains. They spend half of each day learning about math, reading, writing, and social studies in English. Then they spend the other half of the day learning about science, Spanish culture, and reading and writing in Spanish.
These students are a curious, enthusiastic, and hard-working bunch of kids!
This year, we learn about Utah history, as well as magnets, electricity, volcanoes, earthquakes, reading, and writing! But my main goal each year is to help students become enthusiastic, self-motivated learners!
My Project
Literature has always helped children and adults to understand, appreciate and connect with others. I would like to give my students the opportunity to read a wider range of books with their peers. Buying these book sets will allow my students to read the same book as a few of their friends. In addition to the intrinsic benefits gained through reading, this will allow them to engage each other in conversation and excitement about what they are reading.
One of the biggest hurdles we have had to face in the classroom this year is re-engaging reluctant learners who have less attention and focus than they did before the pandemic.
I believe these novel sets will engage students and help them focus, and develop stamina and grit in their learning!
