My Students

Diversity? Mobility? Exceptional families? That's our school. Our students are almost all military dependents, and our school specializes in meeting their needs. They arrive, and they leave, throughout the year, moving from, or to, places across the country and even around the world. Some have gaps in their learning from multiple moves, and 1 in 5 have some kind of disability requiring special services.

Our school has a mindset that all our students benefit from the use of available resources, as we develop ways to meet their unique needs.

Classroom teachers and special education support staff cooperate to provide a continuum of services to all students based on academic, social, and emotional needs instead of labels. We also teach character and life skills, which support students who deal with stressful lives, as well as integration of children with special needs across our school community.

We place great emphasis on ensuring all students achieve the skills, motivation, curiosity, and resilience to succeed. Our families are proud to serve our country, and we are proud to educate their children.

My Project

Film making in response to text pulls together analysis, collaboration, and fun. In fourth grade, we need to summarize and synthesize our thinking. It's hard work, but definitely more fun when we can present it creatively.

Even students who struggle to revise their written work will revise to express their ideas on a movie screen!

In the past, my students had access to multiple iPads. We used them all the time to support and share our learning, but those days are gone. Now we need at least one iPad, so we can hone our thoughts, create movies, and present them to our learning community.
