Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars need to be able to make a connection between reading and math. I believe that reading and math go hand in hand, and to be able to master math students need to first master reading.
My students attend a Title One school.
Our school serves low income families. My students are eager to learn and grow as individuals and be part of our society. The majority of my students parents work two or three jobs. We need resources I can't provide on my own. Some of my students have learning disabilities or social and economical disadvantages, but is my goal to help them achieve greatness.
My Project
My students need books to improve literacy in math including the One Grain of Rice: A Mathematical Folktale, Math Arts, Math Stories, and storage bins. These resources will be use as an engagement factor to introduce students to new concepts and demonstrate to students that math can be found all over the world. Books relating math concepts to the real world will help my students see the value in math. My students need books to enhance our classroom library and books bins for storage. My students need books that make the correlation with real world situations and math. I am requesting a book series Math Stories, a math dictionary, One Grain of Rice: A Mathematical Folktale Decimals, and The Number Devil. I have also requested a copy of Teaching the Common Core Math Standards with Hands-On Activities and Fifth Grade Basic Math Success.
This donation will help expand my classroom library to include books that make math fun.
Students will see how important math is in the real world. The book about math in art will make the connection between math and concepts around the world. The mystery math book will engage students to want to learn more about math.
