This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are active learners. They are very independent workers. Most come from lower economic homes and have very few resources at their disposal. I also have a lot of students who are bilingual, and English is their second language.
Students in my classroom are thinkers and problem solvers.
They dive into all areas of the curriculum and read about it, explore it, question it, and develop a good understanding of the subject or topic we are learning about. We are in an open pod school pod with 3 other classes.
My Project
My students are struggling with all the digital reading they are having to do in distance learning. I would love to do another novel study with my whole class. The problem is that I do not have a class set of novels to use with my students for class novel studies.
I am looking to get a class set of the book Land of Stories for my students.
This book is about a brother and sister who get magically transported into a land of fairy tale. The pair has to work together to solve problems and overcome obstacles to get back home.
Using this novel will help me teach many 5th grade standards such as the point-of-view of the narrator of the story. It will also allow me to help build vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency in reading outside of my district-adopted ELA curriculum.
