My students need multiple copies of 11 young adult literature titles to provide them with choice, engagement, and excellent models for their own writing.
Do you ever come home after a long day and curl up with a book you've chosen because a friend recommended it or it just sounded good? My students don't get that chance in our classroom. Good teachers work hard to make our assignments engaging but there's no money in the budget for contemporary work.
My students attend a school in a community with a moderate-level of poverty.
Many are struggling readers but all of the teachers admit that most of them struggle because they don't have anything to hook them on reading. With you, those hooks will be there!
My Project
These young adult and contemporary books will be used in small group literature circles. These lit circles will give students a book-club atmosphere where they can choose which book to read and then analyze it with their peers. These contemporary works will also give students great models for their writing.
We know that literature circles and creating authentic reading experiences create literature lovers.
With your help, my students will learn about the joys of determining parts of their own reading course.
