My Students
Listening centers are just for that...listening. Students will be able to move a bit, while listening to their favorite story.
My school is a rural school with a population of approximately 500.
Almost 60% of our school qualify for free and reduced lunch. Transportation to this school is required, as all students ride the bus or are driven to school by their parents. Approximately 20% of the school population has English as a second language. Most of the population is Hispanic.
My Project
My students need 2 Hokki stools and a CD of Letters for Rifka. My students will be using the Hokki stools at the listening center. I try to have my students read with a partner, read independently, or read with a group every day. At the listening center students may listen to books on CD. When novels are presented, students are much more engaged for longer periods of time. They can visualize the vocabulary, the plot, and transport themselves to setting and even the characterization of the protagonists of the story.
Students will know, by your donation, that reading is an important skill to be taken seriously.
Students will read the books and learn about other characters vicariously, often a very good way to learn the ways of the world. We are very much appreciative of your donation to our classroom.
