My classroom is full of energetic, enthusiastic children, who are in love with school. I teach kindergarten in an underfunded, underprivileged urban setting.
As a kindergarten teacher, my goal is for children to fall in love with books and reading. Many of the books available to my children are very old with broken spines and missing or torn pages. Not very appealing to a beginning reader.
Sharing literature with children through books and story props is a wonderful way to encourage young readers to engage themselves in reading. Stories transition into all academic areas in the classroom. I am hoping to get new big books and reading props to promote reading, capture children's imaginations and help literature come alive and forever hold a memorable spot in their hearts.
